Tyla attended the 2026 Billboard Women in Music event in Los Angeles in a backless Javier Collazo look.
The dress leaned into early 2000s style with modern twists like cut-outs and feathers.
She has become known for daring, aughts-inspired red carpet dressing.
No one is reviving early Y2K dressing quite like Tyla, but she never lets it tip into cliché. Take the look she wore to the 2026 Billboard Women in Music event in Los Angeles last night: It spoke all the same languages as aughts pop star style, but with a decidedly modern twist.
Styled by Katie Qian, Tyla hit the red carpet in a risqué Javier Collazo dress. The custom design instantly recalled the feathered looks of the 2000s red carpets—mainly, the hot pink Roberto Cavalli get-up worn by Christina Aguilera to the 2003 VMAs—but with a darker mood. Instead of bubblegum pinks, it was designed with brown ombré plumes that created a tiered effect.

Adding to the wow factor was the dress’s silhouette. It centered on midriff-baring cut-outs, a waist-high leg slit, and a completely open back. The star finished the look with dewy makeup and “naked” PVC heels, another aughts callback that she’s made a staple of her repertoire.

Tyla is well-versed in the language of Y2K aesthetics, whether it be pieces actually from the era (like the sheer Tom Ford for Gucci LBD she wore to the 2024 CFDA Awards) or more contemporary iterations like her dress last night. The A*POP singer isn’t afraid of a reference either.
At the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards, she wore a vintage blue-and-black tiger print dress that originated on Roberto Cavalli’s fall 2000 runway. The wild, body-skimming design paid homage to Aaliyah, who wore a lemon yellow version to the 2000 VMAs in Los Angeles.
That’s not to say Tyla is exclusively mining the Y2K archive. Her red carpet repertoire goes far beyond just one aesthetic—like the mussel-shell jacket by emerging designer George Trochopoulos she wore in October. But last night, she proved that even when she revisits the early 2000s, she’s not interested in playing it straight.
