- The Western returns July 23.

- The new episodes pick up six months after the season 1 finale.

This summer, prepare for a return a trip to *Ransom Canyon*.

Netflix has released the first look at season 2 of Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly's Western romance drama, which returns July 23.

Adapted from author Jodi Thomas' book series, the streamer's answer to *Yellowstone* takes place in a small Texas town that is home to battles over land, longstanding disputes between family dynasties, and fiery love triangles.

Duhamel leads the cast as widower Staten Kirkland, whose bond with longtime friend Quinn O'Grady (Kelly) has begun to turn into something more. Too bad she's dating his brother-in-law, Davis Collins (Eoin Macken)! At the end of season 1, Quinn left Davis for Staten, only to then leave him behind for a job in New York.

"Staten has experienced a lot of loss in his life," creator April Blair previously told EW of Staten not supporting Quinn's decision.

"His heart was very shutdown," Blair said. "But by the end of the season he found a way to open it again. Open it to Quinn. And so he has very knee jerk reaction to the news that she's going back. He's coming from a place of loss and pain, and we aren't always our best selves in those moments. Could he have handled the news better? Been more supportive? Of course. But he's the architect of his own pain in a lot of ways."

'Ransom Canyon' ending explained: Who ends up with who (and what really happened to Staten's son)?

Season 2 is set to pick up six months after Quinn departed, and she returns, having not spoken to Staten since. Meanwhile, he's working to reclaim his spot at the top of his family's ranch.

*Shameless *alum Steve Howey joins *Ransom Canyon* for season 2 as Staten's half-brother, Levi, a mountain man who lives off the land. Other new additions include *Animal Kingdom'*s Ben Robson, *Candyman*'s Heidi Engerman, and three-time Emmy winner Patricia Clarkson.
