NBA star Trey Jemison — who was part of the New York Knicks’ 2025-2026 championship-winning team — and his wife, sports broadcaster Alex Jean Glover, celebrated their wedding in Tennessee on Aug. 21

The event came more than a year after they secretly eloped in Antigua on Aug. 3, 2025

The couple surprised their guests with the news that they were already husband and wife in a video message during the reception

Trey Jemison has added another major ring to his collection — a wedding band!

The NBA star, who was part of the New York Knicks’ 2025-2026 championship-winning team, secretly eloped with his fiancée, sports broadcaster Alex Jean Glover, in Antigua on Aug. 3, 2025. More than a year later, Jemison, 26, and Glover, 25, celebrated their nuptials with 100 loved ones at a “Western chic”-themed wedding at Southall Meadows in Franklin, Tenn., just outside of Nashville, on Friday, Aug. 21.

The couple tells PEOPLE that they envisioned their special event as a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to gather together their closest friends and family all at once — and reveal the surprise news that they were already husband and wife.

“We knew that we wanted everyone to be in one place to break the news and then party the night away after,” says Jemison, who signed a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors earlier this month.

They quickly landed on the Nashville area for their location because it’s within driving distance of their hometowns — Glover is from Houston, and Jemison is from Birmingham, Ala. The rest of the planning, however, wasn’t quite as seamless.

During the process, Jemison was in the thick of his season with the Knicks, which culminated in the team defeating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to clinch the coveted Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy for the first time in 53 years. That left Glover to oversee many of the details.

“We didn’t have much time to really sit down together and focus on the wedding,” she recalls. “I actually did a TikTok that went viral with him during the Playoffs, and he knew nothing about the wedding!”

She continues, “With the travel during the Playoffs, I was able to meet with our wedding planner, [Susanna of Lumi Accents], and come up with a plan for our vision.” Glover says the couple “hit the ground running” to finalize the remaining details after the Knicks’ victory parade in New York.

To set the stage for their celebration, the couple leaned into a Western inspiration, with a color palette of green, brown and cream, as well as lots of greenery and elegant florals. And of course, Glover says, a mechanical bull was “a non-negotiable.”

She and Jemison forwent a ceremony, instead playing a surprise video for their guests that featured clips of the pair breaking their marriage news, as well as behind-the-scenes glimpses of their Caribbean elopement.

They had a longer cocktail hour — since there was no ceremony — that included a live saxophonist, hat bar and a branded cornhole game. Appetizers such as stuffed mushrooms, strawberry bruschetta and meatballs were served.

A buffet dinner followed — which Jemison described as “a true Southern meal” — with a menu featuring a mixed greens and fruit salad, cheese and herb baked chicken, smoked beef brisket, twice-baked mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, sweet cornbread and rolls.

Since the bride and groom are not big into cake, they opted to have a mini one for the traditional cake cutting, along with a sheet cake. They also treated their guests to an ice cream cart from Sweethaven that served up scoops in custom flavors.

The bride wore the Biscotti dress from Vow’d Nashville for the occasion. The lace gown features an A-line silhouette with a modern Basque waist, a cat-eye neckline and a lace-framed slit at the leg.

“I knew I wanted a lace look to fit in with the theme, and the slit in the dress sold me,” Glover says. “I wanted something I could wear with my cowgirl hat and boots that would fit the vibe.”

She also ordered a custom robe, as well as a sparkly minidress for her second look, from Miami designer Inna Elsie.

Jemison, who is 6-foot-10, sported a bespoke suit from Custom Men. “He can never find suits that fit him and are long enough, so getting a custom suit was key,” his wife says. “Custom Men did his suit for the ESPYs as well as the wedding, and they killed both looks.”

The bride and groom shared their first dance to the Rascal Flatts hit “Bless the Broken Road.” They also did mother-daughter and father-son numbers.

Jemison and Glover first connected in the summer of 2024 when the athlete reached out after seeing one of Glover’s sports broadcast videos on social media. “What started as a simple message quickly turned into long conversations, genuine connection and an undeniable spark,” Glover recalls.

After building a foundation of friendship, the pair officially began dating that December and, since then, they have juggled multiple moves, demanding work commitments and frequent travel.

“Distance never stood in the way,” Jemison says. “Instead, it strengthened our commitment as we’ve made equal sacrifices, prioritized one another, and chosen to show up every time, no matter where life or work takes us.”

The pair got engaged on Aug. 2, 2025, one day before they eloped in Antigua.

Now that they are husband and wife — and the big secret is out to their loved ones — they are excited to dive into a new chapter together.

“Being married to Alex means I finally found a person I can spend the rest of my life with and grow closer to God with and enjoy this thing we call life together,” Jemison tells PEOPLE.

Reflecting on what he adores most about his wife, the basketball player says, “I love that she is my best friend. I love that every moment of my life that she is involved in is 100 times better. I love the way she pushes me, the way she loves me, and the peace that I get when I’m around her.”

Glover noted the couple’s spontaneity and said there is nothing they can’t achieve together.

“We both pour into each other,” she says, “and I truly believe that we are so much stronger and happier together than we are apart. Trey feels like the part of me I never knew was missing.”

She described Jemison as “caring, an amazing leader, hardworking, and extremely funny,” adding that he “brings out the calm” in her.

Looking ahead, the pair say they hope to start a family and explore the world together — starting with their new home base of Canada.

“We just want to enjoy life and live in God’s will,” Glover says.
