Her cause of death is pending, the Westwood Town Clerk tells PEOPLE.

As noted in her obituary, Kyle was dedicated to early childhood education and worked on educational reform for disadvantaged children and people with disabilities. Her career began in New York City as a teacher in the program Teach For America after she graduated college.

Kyle earned a history degree at Georgetown University, then a Master of Science in Early Education from Pace University and a Master of Education in Education Policy and Management from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

In August 2012, she married Liam Kerr at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. In the years that followed, Kyle and Kerr welcomed three children together. The couple first welcomed twins, Conor and Josie, but their daughter tragically died days after her birth. Two years later, Kyle and Kerr welcomed a second son, Declan. The obituary refers to Kerr as Kyle’s “former husband.”

In Kyle’s final years, she suffered long-term paralysis after she sustained a severe spinal cord injury in 2020, and subsequently became an advocate for people living with disabilities. Her activism included testifying at a hearing on discrimination in health care for people with disabilities at the Massachusetts State House.

She is survived by her 12-year-old Conor and 10-year-old Declan; her mother; brother Michael; sister Rory; and nieces and nephews McKie, Quinn, Jack and Caleb.
