Kacey Musgraves opened up about her feud with Miranda Lambert
The "Dry Spell" performer confirmed to Variety that the pair had a "grass-fed, grade A" beef
Musgraves and Lambert will team up for the duet "Horses and Divorces"
Kacey Musgraves addressed where she stands with Miranda Lambert.
In a digital cover for Variety published on Wednesday, April 29, the "Dry Spell" singer spoke about collaborating with the "Wranglers" performer on a duet called "Horses and Divorces" for Musgraves' forthcoming album Middle of Nowhere.
Before digging into the pair's upcoming collaboration, Musgraves, 37, confirmed that "there was" beef with Lambert, 42.
“It was grass-fed, grade A," she said of their past feud.

Musgraves said that their "real" issues are why she loves their duet since it's "not coming from some contrived place in a writing room."
"We've come together after years of really, honestly, not being friends," she told the publication. "I had this idea one day when I saw her on Instagram, riding one of her horses, and I thought, ‘Well, I guess we have two things in common: horses and divorces.' And I was like, ‘Wait, that's a song.'"
Musgraves then "took it a step further" and considered writing with Lambert and making it a duet. Then, she decided to reach out.
"I hadn't spoken to her in years and was like, ‘Hey, I have this idea. If anybody would get it, it would be you. We've had our s--- over the years, but this would be really funny.' And she was like, ‘I'm down,'" she recalled.
In a March interview with NPR, Musgraves spoke about her then-rumored feud with Lambert. She recalled writing a song called "Mama's Broken Heart" around the time of making her first LP, which Lambert ended up recording for her 2013 album Four the Record instead.
Musgraves was ultimately satisfied with the decision since it "forced" her to write "Merry Go Round," which was a better fit for her as an artist instead of the chart-topping "Mama's Broken Heart."

"It was gonna be my first single and I loved the song so much. I had been a staff writer for years at that point, writing for other people and had finally felt like I was collecting songs that felt like me that I didn't wanna pitch to anyone else," the "High Horse" artist said at the time.
Musgraves claimed that "Mama's Broken Heart" was pitched to Lambert without her "consent or knowledge," and it became a "tricky situation."
"She ended up loving the song and she really wanted it. And I had other co-writers to consider," the eight-time Grammy winner recalled.
In the end, Musgraves was able to "let go of something" and "everyone won."
Musgraves also described Lambert agreeing to a collaboration with her as "very full circle in so many ways."
"We aired out any of the old laundry," she said. "We had some laughs and wrote the song in a matter of a few hours."
At the time, PEOPLE reached out to reps for Lambert for comment.
Musgraves' sixth album, Middle of Nowhere, comes two years after her last record, Deeper Well, and features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Billy Strings, Gregory Alan Isakov and Lambert.
Middle of Nowhere is due Friday, May 1.
