Jimmy Kimmel is responding to Rudy Giuliani after he called the late-night host an "incompetent jackass."

During the Tuesday, April 28 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel called out the former New York City mayor after he chimed in on the controversy surrounding a recent joke Kimmel made about first lady Melania Trump.

During his "alternative" White House Correspondents' Dinner segment last week, Kimmel, 58, joked that Melania had "a glow like an expectant widow," a jab that Melania, President Donald Trump and White House spokespersons took issue with.

"Last night, America's mayor Rudy Giuliani rose from the grave to weigh in on the ongoing drama involving me," Kimmel said, before playing a clip from Giuliani's America's Mayor Live show.

After sharing footage of Giuliani, 81, calling him "one of the most distasteful human beings in this country," Kimmel joked that it "hurts to be called distasteful by a man who farted his own pants off in front of Borat's daughter."

In later footage, Giuliani spoke about Kimmel's "alternative" WHCD bit, which aired on Thursday, April 23 and featured several jokes aimed at the Trump family. "He went through the bother of putting up a little stage," Giuliani said. "He's also like an incompetent jackass."

Kimmel responded: "I have to say, its confusing to be called an incompetent jackass by a man who accidentally held a press conference outside a dildo store, who doesn't seem to have understanding of when videos are running and when they aren't, and who has a gallon of squid ink dribbling off the top of his head. Does this man have any family members who can come get him already?"

Indeed, Kimmel roasted Trump and affiliates during last week's show, which aired two days before the actual White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday, April 25, during which a gunman opened fire. Since then, the first lady has called for ABC to "take a stand" against the late-night host over what she called "hateful and violent rhetoric," while the president claimed that Kimmel's "widow" jab was a "despicable call to violence."

During his Monday, April 27 monologue, Kimmel insisted that his joke could not have had an impact on the assassination attempt. He called the comment "obviously a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they're together."

"It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he's almost 80 and she's younger than I am," Kimmel said of Melania, 56. "It was not by any stretch a call to assassination, and they know that I've been very vocal for many years, speaking out against gun violence in particular."

"I am sorry that you and the president and everyone in that room on Saturday went through that. I really am," he added. "Just because no one got killed doesn't meant it wasn't traumatic and scary. And we should come together and be best. We really should."

The latest drama involving Kimmel and the Trump family follows Kimmel’s talk show being "indefinitely" pulled from the air in September after comments he made about Charlie Kirk’s death. FCC Chair Brendan Carr threatened to pursue action against the network over its criticism of Trump at the time. Kimmel eventually made his return to the airwaves six days later.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
