As marriage rumors surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's possible Madison Square Garden wedding continue to swirl, one of the most secret celebrity weddings ever pulled off is back in the spotlight.
RoseMarie Terenzio, who helped avoid a media frenzy nearly 30 years ago when John F. Kennedy Jr. secretly married Carolyn Bessette, knows firsthand what it takes to keep a high-profile wedding under wraps.
"I don't think it's going to be at MSG. I don't," Terenzio, who served as JFK Jr.'s chief of staff at his political magazine, George, said during a June 29 interview on CBS Mornings. "I could see her doing something for her fans at MSG."
USA TODAY confirmed permits have been filed seeking street closures near Madison Square Garden and approval for a July 3 event.
The request calls for a guest count of between 500 and 999 people, along with tents outside Madison Square Garden and street closures around the iconic venue.
"I think it's amazing. People are so invested in those two, and I think they're really invested in them having their moment," Terenzio said. "Their effervescence as a couple – they're always cheering each other on. I just think people are invested in giving them a beautiful wedding."
Despite the intense speculation, very few details have emerged and almost no leaks have surfaced. Travis Kelce's brother, Jason Kelce, and his wife, Kylie Kelce, are expected to attend, as are fellow NFL star George Kittle and actor-singer Suki Waterhouse. A star-studded guest list is also rumored to include Selena Gomez, the Haim sisters, Zoë Kravitz, Emma Stone, Gigi Hadid, Ed Sheeran and Jack Antonoff.

Things were much quieter for JFK Jr.'s nuptials. He and Bessette wed in a secret ceremony on Sept. 21, 1996, at the First African Baptist Church on Georgia's secluded Cumberland Island with around 40 guests. Among those in attendance were his sister, Caroline Kennedy; his cousin, Anthony Radziwill; and Caroline's son, Jack Schlossberg.
Without social media and the ubiquity of today's digital communication, Terenzio said the secrecy surrounding the wedding came down to "intimacy."
"People you know very well and you only tell them," she said. "And the other thing is decoys. We left itineraries to Ireland around the office. The other thing is no text, no emails, nothing in writing – all by phone or in person."
Nowadays, she said, it is "more difficult, it's not impossible" for a star to maintain privacy on a wedding day.
"I think those two can do it, especially her," Terenzio said of Swift and Kelce. "She has so much savvy with everything she does."
