At a dinner celebrating Falconeri’s Ultrafine Cashmere collection, Matteo Veronesi, son of Sandro Veronesi, founder of the Oniverse Group of which Falconeri is part, described their very Italian concept of beauty and luxury as something that should extend everywhere, from buildings and spaces to food and wine, down to the very feeling of clothing on skin. This is where Falconeri shines, with textile innovations they believe can elevate any outfit all year long.

The collection was displayed at Getty House (Casa Falconeri, for the night), a new private residence designed by Thomas Juul-Hansen, against the backdrop of raw cashmere wool and yarn skeins and creamy Italian travertine (the same stone as Richard Meier’s Getty Center down the road). Guests like Jesse Williams, Leighton Meester, and Jay Ellis viewed the collection and its raw materials of wool and yarn that were displayed in installations throughout the property. There were classic wardrobe staples, like crewnecks, cardigans, polo collars, soft trousers, and slinky tank dresses. Other guests, including Nina Seničar, Emi Renata Sakamoto, and Chace Crawford, styled Ultrafine crew necks by casually tossing them around their shoulders, giving soft dimension to their silhouettes.

Two new fiber innovations expand the Ultrafine Collection program: Silkfine and Airfine. The former, a cashmere and mulberry silk blend, provides a distinct luminosity and is wrought in a spring palette of refined lilac, basil, and fawn. Silkfine ā€œfeels almost liquid—it drapes beautifully and creates silhouettes that are slightly more elongated and sensual,ā€ notes Falconeri Style Director, Silvia Falconi. Guest Eva Longoria paired a black Silkfine V-neck with silk satin wide-leg pants for a fluid, streamlined look. Airfine is the brand’s thinnest knit of cashmere yet, transformed into whisper-light, diaphanous pieces that suit the tenacious trend of see-through layering. Falconi explains that ā€œthe knit structure allows for volume without weight…to create a sensation of airiness on the body.ā€

Falconeri specializes in natural fibers, and the king of those is cashmere, spun from the hard-grown, hard-gathered, impossibly fine, soft undercoat of certain Mongolian goats. Delicate cashmere pieces are typically packed away this time of year, only to resurface for special occasions when temperatures drop. Falconeri, however, intends to redefine and democratize the luxurious touch of cashmere.

Thanks to vertical integration from the Mongolian pastures to their Italian mills, Falconeri is uniquely positioned to offer cashmere of the same ilk as luxury cashmere purveyors like Loro Piana, but for a fraction of the price. Accessible pricing allows cashmere to play alongside cotton and linen in a daily driver wardrobe rather than as special-occasion dressing.

Long-regarded as more aprĆØs ski than aprĆØs swim, Falconeri contends cashmere functions anytime, anywhere, from day to night and from winter to summer. When styling for spring and summer, Falconi recommends wearing the pieces ā€œclose to the skin, where the fiber can naturally regulate temperatureā€ and pairing with other natural fabrics, like linen trousers. Certainly, any trace of wintertime cashmere bias was banished with one look at a gauzy, Airfine V-neck white sweater, floating outside on the pool deck (and styled on a tawny, beaming Sharon Stone), filtering the golden-hour light like a shred of mist. To demonstrate the collection's versatility live, they had guests don cashmere tank dresses during the balmy Los Angeles afternoon, then wrap themselves in cashmere coats and blankets by the end of the evening as the desert air cooled. At Casa Falconeri, the vision of a world draped in cashmere promised ease, elegance, and coziness.
