Six Flags St. Louis' 2026 opening day was marred after the Missouri amusement park closed early amid what local authorities reported was a chaotic scene involving around 100 people fighting at the destination.
Local *First Alert 4* news program reported that Eureka Police Chief Michael Werges told the outlet that “officers responded quickly and dispersed the crowd" on Saturday, April 25 before park officials decided to close the park early. Six Flags St. Louis is one of seven properties recently sold by the main Six Flags company to a new owner, Enchanted Parks.

*First Alert 4* reported that approximately six people were detained at the Eureka, Mo., amusement park, but no injuries occurred and there was no damage to park property.
The roughly 100 people allegedly involved in the incident were mostly juveniles, according to the outlet.

The Six Flags St. Louis incident follows reports that authorities responded to the scene of Orlando-based amusement destination Icon Park, which was flooded by around 1,000 teenagers in what local news called a "takeover" event.

Initially opened in 1971 as one of the original Six Flags parks, Six Flags St. Louis has operated for 54 years as a local amusement destination.
In early March, it was announced that the Six Flags chain — which merged with fellow amusement giant Cedar Fair in 2024 — would sell seven of its existing properties around the world, months after the chain permanently closed Six Flags America in Maryland in November 2025.

Superstar Kansas City Chiefs NFL player Travis Kelce eventually announced that he would invest in the merged Six Flags company, with the star expressing excitement over the business deal in an online statement at the time in which he addressed "all my fellow theme park and amusement park lovers" in his fan base.

"Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to continue the tradition and make Cedar Point and Six Flags even more special for the next generation of families!" he wrote on Instagram. "Excited to partner with Jana Partners as an investor in Six Flags. So crazy to even imagine this is real, but you gotta love it when life comes full circle."
Six Flags St. Louis is currently operating on a weekend-only schedule until its first full week of operation for the 2026 season, which begins on Monday, May 25.
