Britney Spears will be spending time with her sons after news of her arrest.

According to a representative for the singer, Spears, 44, will have her two sons – Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, whom she shares with ex Kevin Federline — as support after she was arrested on suspicion of a DUI on Thursday, March 4, in Ventura, Calif.

The singer's rep shared in a statement that her sons will be joining her to help get through this difficult time.

"Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being," the rep said.

According to arrest records from the Ventura Sheriff's Office, Spears was placed under arrest on the evening of Wednesday, March 4. She was released early in the morning on Thursday, March 5.

A law enforcement source tells PEOPLE that Spears' arrest was on suspicion of a DUI. TMZ was the first to report the news.

"This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," Spears' rep added in a statement. "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

Spears also seemingly deleted her Instagram sometime this week.

This arrest comes amid years of highs and lows for the singer. In 2021, Spears was released from her 13-year conservatorship by an L.A. County judge. Last month, PEOPLE confirmed that Spears sold her music catalogue. It is unclear how much she was paid for her music.

Back in November, Spears' ex-husband Federline appeared on an episode of Talk Shop Live while promoting his new memoir You Thought You Knew and shared that the singer had been in contact with their two sons, Preston and Jayden, since his book was published.

"We haven't talked specifically, but I know that she's talked to our sons, which is good,” Federline shared.

He noted elsewhere in the interview that his boys “are trying to find a way to mend a bond between their mom,” and that was something that he was fully in support of.

"They absolutely love their mom, right? I mean, they always, always have, always will,” he said. "It's instilled in them. And I've always wanted for them to have a connection with their mom, the way I have with my mom."

Then, in December, a source told PEOPLE that Spears celebrated Christmas with one of her sons in L.A.

"Britney had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden — it's been such a special holiday," the source exclusively told PEOPLE.
