One of the 21st centuryâs most impactful franchises is expanding once again. Based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin, the Game of Thronesuniverse has reigned supreme over television since 2011, and the universe isnât stopping anytime soon. The Targaryen prequel series House of the Dragonjust wrapped up its penultimate season, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has wrapped production on its second season, and thereâs also the Game of Thrones prequel play, The Mad King, currently being showcased in London.
With the universe expanding into a stage play, it was only a matter of time before the world of Westeros set its eyes on the big screen. It was recently announced that the long-talked about Aegonâs Conquestadaptation would make its debut on the silver screen, with audiences now being able to watch this magical franchise in all its glory on the big screen. Focusing on Aegon Targaryen and his two sister wives Visenya and Rhaenys as they take over the Seven Kingdoms, the film will undoubtedly be one of this universeâs most striking projects.
But will any characters from House of the Dragon or Game of Thrones appear? Here are the characters who appear and are mentioned in these shows that we believe could be present.
House of the DragonAlys Rivers
In the Season 3 finale of House of the Dragon, Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin) reveals that she is actually the ancient widow of Harren âThe Blackâ Hoare, who once ruled over both the Iron Islands and the Riverlands. When Aegon I Targaryen began to take over Westeros by conquest, he and his dragon, Balerion, burned Harrenhal and extinguished Harrenâs line, leaving Alys alone in her grief to haunt the castle for centuries to come.

Harren the Black
Mentioned in both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, Harren the Black once lorded over Harrenhal, which, since Season 2, has become a primary location in the prequel series. The show heavily features his castle, Harrenhal, as a place that entraps its visitors within its confines, forcing them to confront their pasts and futures. In Aegonâs Conquest, the film will surely show the castle in all its former glory, as well as Harren, who will undoubtedly be one of Aegon and his sistersâ most formidable antagonists.
Vhagar
While Vhagar was claimed by Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell) in Season 1 of House of the Dragon, and Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) after her death, the dragon once belonged to Aegon I Targaryenâs older sister, Visenya Targaryen. With Visenya as her rider, Vhagar helped the siblings conquer Westeros, partaking in battles and helping her rider secure the Vale of Arryn after allowing Dowager Queen Sharra Arrynâs young son, King Ronnel Arryn, to ride the beast with Visenya.
Balerion the Black Dread
Before being claimed by King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine), Balerion was the dragon of Aegon the Conqueror. While he is only mentioned in Season 1 of House of the Dragon, the formidable beast has long been anticipated to appear onscreen by fans of George R.R. Martinâs work. Known to be the biggest of House Targaryenâs dragons, Balerion is sure to appear in the film as the most dangerous of the houseâs dragons.

Although she does not appear physically in the series, in Season 3 of House of the Dragon, Ormund Hightower (James Norton) discusses how Dorne was the only kingdom to withstand being conquered during Aegonâs conquest. Under Meriaâs rule, House Martell is the only house that joined the Seven Kingdoms through marriage instead of conquest and one of the few who retained their own culture in the process of the Targaryenâs taking over. A fierce rival for Aegon and his sisters, she is sure to appear in the film as the trioâs main antagonist.
Aegon the Conqueror
Like most of these characters, Aegon is only mentioned in House of the Dragon, but the series is shaped by the prophetic dream that forced him to conquer Westeros and turn it into the Seven Kingdoms. As the series focuses on the journey he and his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys go on to unite the kingdoms, he will be the filmâs protagonist and is likely be the sole character whose eyes we view the movieâs events from.
Game of ThronesDaenerys Targaryen
House of the Dragon has positioned Aegon the Conqueror as a dreamer; a person with Valyrian blood who experiences vivid and often prophetic dreams. Because of this, it is probable that similarly to Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) in Season 2 of the prequel series, Aegon will have visions of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), who is believed to fulfill his dream as the Prince Who Was Promised.

Jon Snow
While House of the Dragon has positioned Daenerys to be the Prince that Was Promised, this franchise has been known to play fast and loose with continuity regarding whether it is her or Jon Snow (Kit Harington) who is meant to fill the prophecy. There is no certainty on what stance Aegonâs Conquest will take in the matter, and because of this unpredictability, we canât rule out Jonâs appearance in a dream, just like his aunt.
Torrhen Stark
Known famously as the âKing Who Kneltâ throughout Westeros, one of the first Starks present in George R.R. Martinâs work is sure to be featured in Aegonâs Conquest. Mentioned by Daenerys Targaryen to Jon Snow in Season 7, Episode 3 of Game of Thrones, Torrhen bent the knee to Aegon the Conqueror to save his people, bonding the Starks and the Targaryens together for generations. This ultimately led to Daenerys using her dragons to help Jon defeat the Night King in the final season of the series.
