Fans can rejoice—HBO Max’s The Pitt is finally back for season two. Similar to the show’s Emmy-winning debut season, the high-stakes medical drama is set at the fictional Pittsburgh emergency medical center—only this time around, it will take place 10 months later during Fourth of July weekend. For the uninitiated, The Pitt is widely celebrated for accurately portraying the adversity and around-the-clock pressure within a modern-day hospital.

What sets the series apart is its setup: every episode depicts a 15-hour shift, zooming in on the medical team and their professional—and, at times, personal—conflicts. As for the cast, the show is studded with an ensemble of hard-working characters, including Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (ER alum Noah Wyle), the chief attendant at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room. While Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor) has officially exited the series, citing personal reasons, the sophomore installment is still expected to feature fan-favorite faces—plus five new actors are joining the cast in recurring roles. While we count down to the premiere of The Pitt season two on January 8, scroll ahead to get a refresher on the cast and characters who make up the ER.
